I want to buy a appropriate surfboard.?

i want to buy a surf board so that i can go surfing with my friend. i asked him wut to achieve and he said a 6'2" board. what should i look for in a good board and wut are the fitting brands out there?

buy a used one or borrow someones
get to know different types of boards : regular shortboard, fish, fun, longboard, funboard, etc.
