What is the best modem/router brand to acquire? Also does a cable amplifier in actuality work?
I am just curious, what are the best brand for modems and routers. I have a Linksys router and Scientific Atlanta modem. They both work completely well. Except for the modem maybe.... Anyways I am also curious to whether a cable amplifier will in truth increase my internet speed. I heard that it does, so I am considering to get one soon depending on the response.

powerfully first an amp will only increase your speed if the signal is weak. When the (2nd) cable guy come to my house he put a tester on my line and saw that it was path too strong, probally why my cable company modem burned out in 6 months. Check to see how many splitters are within you line before your modem and/or try to move the modem to the first split coming past its sell-by date of the mainline.
For the second part, brand loyalty is one thing but i do not quality that one company is superior to another across the board (i am a d-link guy though). Each company has cheap, midrange, and high stop equipment.
As a quick story some guy at staples was trying to describe me that a $30 netlink router was superior to my d-link di-655, ($130) because d-links were slow and netlink's be better.
